River Expedition Canoe Training Weekend
Focused coaching to develop advanced skills for river expeditions This weekend will enable participants to develop, improve, and refine more advanced paddling skills to undertake expeditions on grade 2 and 3 rivers.
10am 19 September – 4pm 21 September 2025
Location: On one of the rivers of Cumbria or Southern Scotland dependent on the conditions and capabilities of participants
Expedition leader: Stuart Lockton
Difficulty Level: Advanced, participants will be expected to have previous experience paddling on rivers of at least grade 2
Cost of guiding: £250 per person, (members £180), plus canoe hire £50 per boat
Max 6 participants
With the support of expert coaching, participants will be supported to develop and improve a range of paddling skills including analysis of paddle-canoe-water interactions as well as planning and packing for a river expedition. The coach has over 20 years experience of in undertaking advanced water paddling expeditions across the UK.
Although it will be anticipated that you have access to a canoe of your own, to assist with travel, canoes and paddling equipment can be provided if needed. You will need to bring your own clothing and food. Overnight accommodation will be arranged in a bunkhouse type of provision, but this is optional.
Collection and drop off is possible from Carlisle train station by prior arrangement.
